Story for JSC/SSC/HSC Exam

5. A LIAR SHEPHERD
Once there was a liar shepherd who tended his sheep by the side of a deep forest. To enjoy him and to befool the people he shouted, “Tiger, tiger, please help me.” People would come running to help him. Then the shepherd would begin to laugh and say that he only played with them. Being disgusted the people would go back. -------. After a few days he made the same fun. The people of the village came again to help him but found no tiger there.
But one day a tiger really fell upon the sheep and began to kill his sheep. The shepherd became very afraid and cried, “Tiger! tiger! Help! Help! A tiger is in my sheep! Come and help me!” The villagers heard him but they thought it was his another fun. No one came to help him. The tiger feasted on the sheep and finally killed the shepherd. So, it is very unwise to make fun by telling lies.

6. THE CUNNING FOX AND FOOLISH GOAT
Once in summer, a fox was very thirsty. He looked about all day for water to drink. At last he came to a well. The well was very deep. He tried to get water. He tumbled in.
There was a little water. So he was not drowned. He drank all he could. Then he tried to get out. But he could not. A goat came to the well to drink water. He saw the fox and said, “I could not get any water. Is there water to drink?” -------. “Yes, there is much water here. You may come here.” said the fox. Then the goat asked the fox how he would go there. The fox suggested to him to jump. The goat did so. Then the cunning fox rode on the goat and got out of the well. While leaving the well, the fox said to the foolish goat, “Look before you leap.”

7. WHAT IS PLAY TO ONE CAUSES DEATH TO ANOTHER
There was a pond full of frogs. Some of them often put their heads out of the water and croaked loudly. One day some boys were playing by the side of the pond. When they hear the frogs croaking,----they began to throw stones at them. All the frogs at once went down into the water. But the boys remained standing there with stones in their hands. The new game was a great fun to them. They went on pelting the frogs with stones when they raised their heads above the water. Thus many frogs were hit hard and few were killed. At last an old frog raised its head and said,”Oh boys please! Please! Stop the cruel fun. Don’t throw stones at us.” “It is a play. We are enjoying it.” said the boys. “Why should we stop it?” “What is play to you causes death to us. This is why, you should stop It.” answered the frog. The boys were ashamed of this. They left the cruel game and went away.

8. A SLY FOX AND A FOOLISH CROW
Once there was a foolish crow. One day it was flying over a meat shop. When the shopkeeper looked behind, it stole a piece of meat. The shopkeeper did not see the crow stealing the piece of meat from his shop. -------.The crow flew to a distant tree and sat on a branch of the tree. Under the tree there was a sly fox who noticed it. The fox was greedy and clever also. He thought for sometimes and asked the crow to sing a song with its beautiful voice. The foolish crow at first did not want to sing but the sly fox said, “If you start your singing most of the animals of the forest will come to hear and you will be famous.” Hearing it the foolish crow felt proud and started singing. When he opened his mouth, the piece of meat felt down. The sly fox took it and went away. The foolish crow could not do anything.

9. THE CUNNING FOX AND THE FOOLISH CROCODILE
Once a crocodile wanted her four children to be educated. But how is it possible? So she went to a fox and asked him if he could teach her children. The cunning fox gladly received the offer. So the crocodile left all her children with the fox and went back to the river. The fox liked to eat crocodile’s kids. -----So he ate one of them and kept the other three. After some days, the crocodile came to see her children. The cunning fox showed her the three kids and showed one of them twice. The foolish mother crocodile thought that she saw all the four of her children and went away. The cunning fox again ate another one of the crocodile’s kids. After some days the crocodile came and the fox again showed both of them twice. Thus, one day the fox ate all the kids and refused the crocodile to give back her kids, because the kids are now educated. They can move now all by themselves. They do not need their mother or any assistance.
10. FAILURES ARE THE PILLARS OF SUCCESS
Robert Bruce, king of Scotland, fought several battles to regain his country’s freedom but was each time defeated. Naturally he was very sad. One day sitting up in his hiding place, he was brooding over his misfortune. -----Suddenly he noticed a spider trying to reach the ceiling with the help of its silken thread to complete the cobweb. The spider tried again and again to go up but dropped down every time. Six attempts made by the spider failed one after another. But still it did not give up the struggle an went on trying. Bruce observed the spider with keen interest and saw that the seventh attempt of the spider succeeded. The perseverance of the spider encouraged Bruce. He saw a ray of hope. Filled with new hope he brought together his scattered forces and faced his enemies once more with renewed energy. This time he prevailed over his enemies and succeeded in defeating them.

11. SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE
Once there was a hare. She was very proud of her speed. One day she was going back to her house. A tortoise was also returning to his house. The tortoise was going without disturbing the hare. Suddenly the hare stopped the tortoise and said. ----- “You slow coach! I feel pity for your speed.” But the tortoise said with a smile. “Well, let’s run a race.” At this the hare was much amused. So she said. “Come along, let’s fix a date for the race,” They fixed a date. A fox came to see the race. The tortoise and the hare came to the starting point. The race began. The hare began to run very fast. She jumped and jumped. She ran a mile in a mile in a few minutes. Soon she found the tortoise far behind her. Then she stopped. She said to herself. “What’s the use of going so fast? Perhaps, the tortoise has gone only a few yards by this time. So, I can very well have a good sleep before he comes up” So saying, the hare went to sleep in a bush. (চলমান)
