Some people are just naturals when it comes to talking to children.
They can sit down with virtually any child and engage them in
conversation without even thinking about it. These people are born to
be in children’s ministry because there is no better way to build a
relationship with a child than to talk to them. I happen to be blessed
by God to be one of those people who actually loves talking to kids
(many times more so than talking to adults). I enjoy engaging them,
relating to them, chatting with them and learning from them.
There are, however, a lot of people who love kids but just find sitting across the table from them and trying to have a conversation about as daunting and foreign as sitting across the table from an alien life form trying to learn about their planet. It’s not that they don’t like kids, just have trouble deciding where to start. In order to help, I have compiled a list of 100 questions and conversation starters to get kids talking. Much like any conversation, the key is to just get it started then it tends to take on a life of its own. There are literally thousands upon thousands of things you can talk to a child about. The more you get to know them and invest in their lives the deeper and more meaningful your conversations will become. In the meantime, hopefully this list will help give you some ideas on where to start when it comes to talking to kids.
