কোন শব্দ কোন passage এ দ্বিতীয়বার ব্যবহূত হলে প্রথমবার ছাড়া পরবর্তী প্রতিবারের পূর্বে The বসে। তবে নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝানোর জন্য প্রথম বারেও the বসতে পারে। যেমনঃ
I have a shirt. I have bought the shirt from Jhenaidah. The shirt is navy blue in colour.
পৃথিবীতে একটিই আছে এমন জিনিসের নামের পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ
The moon shines at night. The sun sets in the west. The earth moves round the sun.
কোন জাতি বা সমপ্রদায়ের নামের পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ
The English are a brave nation. The Muslims are pious. The Pathans live in Pakistan.
Morning, noon, afternoon, night, evening, প্রভৃতি Noun এর পূর্বে in বসলে ইত্যাদি শব্দের পূর্বে The বসে কিন্তু এদের পূর্বে at বসলে The বসে না। যেমনঃ

Majority, minority, people, public, police, first, second, third- ইত্যাদি শব্দ Sentence এর শুরুতে বসলে এদের পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ

কোন তুলনা করা হলে যার সাথে তুলনা করা হয় তার পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ

দুইয়ের মাঝে তুলনা বুঝাতে comparative degree এর ক্ষেত্রে adjective এর পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ
