Clauses to Sentences There are four different types of sentences: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex.
Simple - one independent clause
Compound - two independent clauses
Complex - one independent clause combined with one or more subordinate clauses
Compound-complex - two independent clauses, plus one or more subordinate clauses, combined with a semicolon, a comma followed by a coordinating conjunction, or a semicolon followed by a conjunctive adverb and a comma.
