Environment Pollution

Environment pollution means the contamination of the components of the environment which is harmful to our health and livelihood. In Bangladesh, environment is polluted in many ways. Air is polluted by smoke and fumes of vehicles and industries. Water is polluted by waste and filth of mills and factories. Vehicle horns and indiscriminate use of loud speakers cause sound pollution. Dumping of rubbish and untreated human waste causes serious odour pollution. In this way human beings are causing environment pollution. Environment pollution gives rise to ecological imbalance and brings about natural disasters in this world. It causes premature death to millions of people. However, we should take measures to prevent environment pollution. We should plant more trees and work for forestation. Government should take proper steps to save our environment. Cutting down trees and hill should be restricted. To prevent pollution, government as well as all the conscious people should come forward to develop civic sense to reduce all kinds of pollution.

Deforestation

Deforestation

Deforestation means cutting down trees in large numbers. Deforestation means spoiling tress in large numbers. Trees are very much important for our existence. They are closely related to our life. Without trees, we do not get oxygen which is very much related to existence of human beings as well as other animals. They are also a great source of food, vitamins and furniture. Most of the living beings on earth live on plant-oriented food like fruits, vegetables, leaves etc. So, we cannot live a single moment on earth without any tree. But nowadays, plants are being destroyed at an alarming rate. A huge amount of plants are being cut down for construction works and for making furniture. It leads to soil erosion. It deprives us of fruit and wood. Due to deforestation carbon dioxide is increasing worldwide. As a result, the world is becoming warmer. The sea level is rising and many parts of the world are going to be engulfed by the sea water in recent future. If deforestation goes on, our country will be changed into a desert. So, we have to realize the bad effects of deforestation. We have to educate our common people. We can persuade them to abstain from cutting down trees. We can take many measures to prevent deforestation. Tree plantation programme should be expanded to the remote corner of the country. The government should make TV and radio programme on the subject of the danger of deforestation.

A Farmer

A Farmer
A farmer is a person who cultivates the land for agricultural producation. He lives in a village. He cultivates and prepares his land with simple hand made tools. He is a very familiar face in our country. He is a poor man. He is to work hard from dawn to dusk. He has hardly any time to pass in merriment and happiness. He faces much difficulty in supporting the member of his family. He is to work in all good and bad weather. Sometime he becomes tired but cannot take rest. He cannot provide food, education and medicine to his family properly. He earns very scanty money. He does not fulfill the demand of his family members. He has the right to live in the society decently. The government of the people or society should come forward to help such people and change their miserable condition.

A Rainy Day

A Rainy Day
(GKwU el©bgyLi w`b)

Gm,Gg,Avnmvb nvexeA rainy day is a day when it rains ceaselessly (mxm‡jmjx-weiZnxbfv‡e) all day long during (wWDAvwiO-e¨vcx) the rainy season. It is called (KjW-ejv n‡q _v‡K) a drizzling (wWªRjxO-Mywo¸wo) day. The sky is overcastted (IDfvKv:mUxW-‡gNv”Qbœ) with patches of black clouds (c¨v‡Pm Ad eøvK K¬vDWm-LÛLÛ Kv‡jv †gN) and the sun remains (wi‡gBbm-_v‡K) hidden (wn‡Wb-jywK‡q) behind (wenvnbW-wcQ‡b ) them. The weather (IG`v(i)-AvenvIqv) is foul (dvDj-we¯^v`).The sun is not seen. Sometimes (mvgUvngR-KL‡bv KL‡bv), gusty wind (MvmwU DBbW-S‡ov evZvm) blows (‡eøŠR-cÖevwnZ nq) with rain. Rivers, canals and tanks swell up. Roads and paths get muddy and slippery (w¯øcvwi-wcw”Qj). Water stands here and there. Normal life (‡bvgj jvBd-¯^vfvweK Rxeb) is disrupted (wWmivcwUW-e¨nZ nq) due to heavy rain. One does not generally (‡Rbivwj-mvaviYZ/mPivPi) come out without compulsion (Kvgcvjkvb-eva¨evaKZv). The common people cannot attend (Av‡UBbW-Dcw¯’Z nq bv) their respective places (‡im‡c±wUf †cøB‡mm-¯^¯^ ¯’vbmg~n) in time. If anybody wants to go outside, he has to take an umbrella with him. The poor and the day laborers (‡jBevim-w`bgRywiiv) do not like a rainy day. They cannot go out to earn their living (wjwfs-RxweKv). Their sufferings (mvdvwiOm-Kómg~n) know no bounds (‡bŠ †bv evDbWm-mxgv _v‡K bv). They go on starving (÷vwfs-bv †L‡q _v‡K). A rainy day is most welcomed (I‡qjKvgW-¯^vMZ) to the students, as they have no classes in the school. A rainy day brings (weªwism-wb‡q Av‡m) joyous mood (RqAvm gyW-Avb›` gyû©Z) to the young boys of the same age and they are seen to bathe (‡eB`-‡Mvmj Kiv) in rainwater with merriment (‡gwi‡gbU-Avb›`). People pass the day in listening to music, watching videocassettes, reading novels. Those who have imaginary bent (BgvwRbvwi †ebU-KvíwbK `ÿZv/B”Qv) of mind enjoy (BbRB-Avb›` K‡i) the beauty of nature (w` weDwU Ad b¨vPvi-cªvK…wZK †mŠ›`h©) being drenched in rains (‡WªbPW Bb †iBbm-e„wó‡Z wm³ K‡i). The cloudy sky ((K¬vDwW ¯‹vB-‡gNjv AvKvk) lets loose (jym-gy³ K‡i) their emotions (B ‡gŠkbm-Av‡eMmg~n/Abyf~wZmg~n). A rainy day has good effect (B‡dKU-cÖfve) on the soil. It helps (‡njcm-mvnvh¨ K‡i) plants grow (cøvbUm †MŠ-MvQcvjv R‡b¥), flowers bloom (eøyg-‡dv‡U) and nature looks fresh (‡d«k-SiS‡i/ZiZvRv) and beautiful. However (nvDBfvi-hvB‡nvK), a rainy day is welcomed (I‡qjKvgW-¯^vMZg) after the baking (‡eBwKs-Sjmv‡bv) heat of summer (wnU Ad mvgvi-MÖx‡¯§i Mi‡gi ci).

The Victory Day of Bangladesh

The Victory Day of Bangladesh

The 16th of December is the 'Victory Day'(wf‡±vwi †W-weRq w`em) of Bangladesh. It is the most(‡gv÷-me‡P‡q) memorable day(‡g‡gv‡iej †W-¯§ibxq w`b) in the history(wnw÷ª-BwZnv‡m) of Bangladesh. It is called(KjW-ejv n‡q _v‡K) 'Victory Day' because(weKR-KviY) on this day(Ab w`R †W-GB w`‡b) the freedom fighters(wd«Wg dvBUvim-gyw³‡hv×v‡`i) of Bangladesh got(MU-‡c‡qwQj) victory(wfKUwi-Rq) over the occupied(AKzcvBW-`Lj`vi) army(Avwg©-‡mbvevwnbx) of the then(‡`b-ZLbKvi) Pakistan. The people of Bangladesh(w` wccj Ad evsjv‡`k-evsjv‡`‡ki RbMY) celebrate(‡mwj‡eªU-D`hvcb K‡i) the day with great joy(Rq-Avb›`) and vigour(wfMIi-D`¨g). Because of the great sacrifice(‡MÖU m¨vKwidvBm-eo AvZ¨Zv‡Mi) of the patriotic sons(c¨vUwiIwUK-‡`k‡cÖwgK) of our nation, Bangladesh came(‡Kg-Av‡m) into being and occupied(AKzcvBW-cvq) a place in the world map(Iqvì© g¨vc-wek¦gvbwP‡Î). Short Story Solomon’s wisdom

Solomon’s wisdom
King Solomon was renowned for his wisdom. He was a man of great intelligence (eyw×gËv). His name and fame spread all over the world. The Queen of Sheba also heard about him. So, she wanted to test his wisdom. The Queen came to the court of Solomon and she brought with her two garlands of flowers- one natural and the other artificial. She placed them before the king and told him to take the natural one. Solomon was puzzled for a time. Suddenly a thought came to his mind and he told his one servant to open the window. After opening the window some bees came in from his garden and settled on the natural flowers. King Solomon told his men to open the window. Then the bees came in and sat on the garlands of real flowers. The King then pointed to that garland. The Queen of Sheba was greatly charmed (gy», AvK„ó Kiv) at his wisdom and went admiring the king’s wisdom.

Flood in Bangladesh

Flood in Bangladesh
                                                    (d¬vW Bb evsjv‡`k-evsjv‡`‡ki eb¨v)
Flood (d¬vW-eb¨v) means (wgbm-ej‡Z eySvq) overflow (Ifvi‡d¬v-Dc‡P cov) of water. Flood (døvW-eb¨v) occurs (IKvm©-N‡U) in Bangladesh every (Gfwi-cÖwZ) year (Bqvi-eQi).When (‡nv‡qb-hLb) it takes place(‡UKm‡cøm-N‡U) seriously(wmwiqvmwj-gvivZ¡Kfv‡e), it weakens (DB‡Kbm-`~e©j K‡i †`q) our hopes(‡nvcm-Avkv) of prosperity(‡cªvmcvwiwU-mg„w×). It is like a curse (Kvm-Awfkvc) of nature (b¨vPvi-cÖK…wZ) on us. Flood (døvW-eb¨v) is a natural (b¨vPvivj-cÖvK…wZK) calamity (K¨vjvwgwU-`y‡hvM)©. Now-a-days (bvD G †Wm-eZ©gv‡b), it is an annual (GwbDAvj-evwl©K) affair(A¨vwdqvi-welq) in Bangladesh. Bangladesh suffers (mvdvim-Kó †fvM K‡i) from flood (d¬vW-eb¨v) every year(Gfwi Bqvi-cÖwZeQi).

Due(wWD-Rb¨/Kvi‡Y) to heavy(‡nwf-fvix) rainfall (‡iBbdj-e„wócvZ) or other (Av`vi-Ab¨vb¨) causes (K‡Rm-Kvi‡Y) when rivers or canals (K¨vbvjm-Lvjmg~n) overflow (Ifvi‡d¬Š-Dc‡P c‡o) their banks (e¨vsKm-e¨vsKmg~n) and sweep  away(mywqc A¨vDI‡q-e‡q hvq) villages and towns, then it is called(KjW-ejv nq) flood(døvW-eb¨v).
The causes(K‡Rm-KviY) of flood(døvW-eb¨vi) are many(‡gwb-A‡bK). Excessive (GKwmwmf-AwZwi³) and continued (KbwUwbDqyW-Pjgvb/cÖevwnZ) heavy(‡nwf-fvix) rainfall(‡iBbdj-e„wócvZ) is the main cause (‡gBb KR-cÖavb KviY) of flood (døvW-eb¨v) in our country. It may be caused (KRW-Kvib) by cyclones (mvB‡K¬vbm), tidal bores (UvBWvj‡evim-Rj”&Q¦vm), or melting (‡gjwUs-Mjv) of snow (‡¯œv-eid) on mountains (gvDb‡UBbm-ce©Zmg~n).

Flood causes (d¬vW K‡Rm-eb¨vi Kvi‡Y) a big loss (jR-webó nq) of life (jvBd-Rxeb), property (cÖvcvwU©-mgcwË) and crops (‡Kªvcm-dmj). Flood (d¬vW-eb¨v) affected (A¨v‡dK‡UW-AvµvšÍ) people (wccj-RbMY) become (weKvg-nq) helpless (‡njc‡jm-Amnvq) and houseless (nvDm‡jm-M„nnxb). The after(AvdUvi-c‡ii) effect (B‡dKU-cÖfve) of flood (døvW-eb¨v) is more (‡gvi-AviI) dangerous (‡WbRvivm-gvivZ¡K/fqven).Things (w_sm-wRwbmcÎ) get rotten (‡MU i‡Ub-c‡P hvq).The environment (Gbfvib‡g›U-cwi‡ek) begins (wewMbm-Avi¤¢ n‡Z _v‡K) to pollute (cjyU-`~wlZ). Flood (døvW-eb¨v) affected(A¨v‡dK‡UW-AvµvšÍ) people(wccj-RbMY) suffer(Kó †fvM K‡i) from hunger(nvsMvi-ÿzavq). They become (weKvg-nq) sick (wmK-Amy¯’). It affected (A¨v‡dK‡UW-AvK&ªvšÍ) almost (Aj‡gv÷-cÖvq me) the whole (‡nvj-mgMÖ) of Bangladesh. It captured (K¨vcPviW-Avq‡Z¦ G‡mwQj) the city areas (Gwiqvm-GjvKvmg~n) like (jvBK-we‡kl K‡i) Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, etc. the misery (wgRvwi-Kó) of the people (wccj-RbMY) knew no bounds(wbD †bv evDÛm-mxgv bv _vKv).
Relief operations(wiwjd Icv‡ikbm-wiwjd cwiPvjbvmg~n) become(weKvg-nq) badly needed (wb‡WW-`iKvi nq) for the flood affected people. Floods(d¬vW-eb¨v) do some(mvg-wKQz) good(¸W-fvj) to us. Relief (wiwjd) should be given (wM‡fb-‡`Iqv nq) properly(‡cÖvciwj-h_vh_fv‡e) to the flood (d¬vW-eb¨v) affected(A¨v‡dK‡UW-AvµvšÍ) people. They should be rehabilitated (wi‡nwfwj‡n‡UW-cyb©vevmb). Easy loans (BwR †jvbm-mnR †jvb) and seeds (wmWm-exR) should be given (wM‡fb-‡`Iqv nq) to them.
Firstly(dv©÷wj-cÖ_gZ) drainage(‡WªB‡bRW) system(wmm‡Ug-cØwZ) should(myW-DwPZ)be improved(BgcÖæfW-DbœwZ). Secondly, river beds should be dredged (‡Wª&RW-Lbb Kiv). Fourthly, we should(myW-DwPZ) build(weì-‰Zwi Kiv) our houses on high land(nvB j¨vÛ-DPz f~wg‡Z).
Both long and short time plans can be taken. The silted(wmj‡UW-cwj‡Z fiv hvIqv) up beds of our rivers should be excavated (G·‡Kwf‡UW-Lbb Kiv) for carrying more water. Proper embankments(Bge¨vsK‡g›U-eva) should be constructed(Kb÷ªvK‡UKW-wbwg©Z) along the banks of the rivers.
Flood(døvW-eb¨v) causes(K‡Rm-KviY) a huge (wnDR-cÖPzi cwigvb) loses (j‡Pm-bó nq) to our country every year(Gfwi Bqvi-cÖ‡Z¨K eQi). So we must control (Kb‡UŠj-wbqš¿b Kiv) flood(døvW-eb¨v) at any cost. Ours is an agricultural country. Our national(b¨vkbvj-RvZxq) economy (BKbwg-A_©bxwZ) and the prosperity (‡cªvmcvwiwU-mg„w×) of our people largely depend(wW‡cbW-wbf©i K‡i) on agriculture(AvMÖxKvjPvi-K…wl Kv‡R).

So, the government(Mf©b‡g›U-miKvi) of Bangladesh should take both short-term and long-term measures(wgRvi-cwigvc) to control(Kb‡UŠj-wbqš¿b Kiv) floods(døvW-eb¨v) so that they may not cause(KR-KviY) the damage(W¨v‡gR-webó) of our crops(‡µvcm-dmj), cattle(K¨vUj-MiæevQi), houses(nvD‡Rm-evwoNi) and properties(‡cÖvmcvwiwU-mg„w×).
