So, programs of satellite television channels have not only uses but also abuses .Let we find out the uses and abuses of satellite television in the following paragraphs.

There are some news channels of the satellite television. BBC, CNN, ZEE NEWS etc. Telecast news and views round the clock. We can know the happenings live from the spots through these channels. Thus these channels help us a lot in providing current affairs of the world.

The main use of satellite television is entertainment. When we become tired of our work, we want to relax. At this time television programs refresh us by telecasting songs, drama serials, movies, etc. Satellite channels have become an addiction to many. People specially the students sit in front of the TV set and spend hour after hour. This hampers their normal work schedule.

Sometimes, satellite channels telecast some programmers with indecent costume. So, it is often hesitating to watch the TV programmers with all the members of the family.

The most dangerous thing about the satellite TV is the cultural intrusion culture of one country enters into another culture and pollute one’s own culture. Cultural invasion is more dangerous than the political invasion. Satellite channels of the developed countries are influencing the culture of the poor countries.

However, the satellite channels are more entertaining than the national channels. We should not pick up the bad things. We should derive the educative lessons. We must discover the programmers that suit our taste and culture.

Empowerment of women in Bangladesh

                                      Empowerment of women in Bangladesh

Empowerment means the process of giving power or authority to the powerless. And empowerment of women indicates a process which helps women get the opportunity to join the workforce and social affairs.

In the past women were confined within the four walls . They were kept away from out-of-home productive work. The hearth was their workplace and so cooking , cleaning , washing giving birth and rearing children become their jobs . Men become the wage earners and all other responsibilities were imposed on them . It Bangladesh the women are still lagging behind .

Women are the worst sufferers in Bangladesh . Superstition and religious dogmas are belting their position  and dignity . The birth of a girl child in a poor family is not regarded as good . Parents think that the birth of a girl child will add to their sufferings . Very often they do not think of sending their girl to school . They are married off in their tender age . In her father in-law’s house she is not treated well and she is often tortured and mistreated by her husband and others for dowry.

In society women are no less important than men . About half of our total population is women . So it cannot be denied that they too possess equal rights and duties as men . They also have ability and if they get opportunity , they can also work like men . That is why keeping aloof a half of its total population , no nation can make the real progress. So, women’s empowerment is a must .

Women’s condition has changed greatly during the last few decades . At present women are playing important roles in all spheres of life . They have come out of the four walls and are working hand in land with men in all spheres of work . Proper steps should be taken for the empowerment of women . We should make our women conscious of the socio-economic development of the county . They should be made self-reliant by impartation to them proper knowledge and employment . Our social prejudices regarding the girls must be changed .

We can say that if we want to keep pace with the challenge of the new millennium ,the participation of both men and women in all development works must be ensured.

Globalization

Globalization

Globalization is a process of expanding trade and commerce all over the world by creating borderless market. It is creating more opportunities for the capitalist’s countries are exploiting the cheap labour available in poor countries. This is the common fear about the adverse effects of globalization in the countries like ours. But; the fear is not quite justified because globalization has also a far reaching effect on many aspects of life. With the development of hitech communication media and rapid transportation facilities the world has come closer. We can share our joys and sorrows like next door neigbours.Globalization also brings all types of different customs and behaviour into our homes through satellite television channels and the internet. Now; we can enrich our local culture through constant interaction between different cultures. But along with this, the cultural assault can also be resisted by the strength of our traditional social values, beliefs and attitudes.

Gender Equality

Gender Equality

Gender equality means equality and fairness of treatment between men and women. It signifies a condition in which both men and women are treated equality and a mindset in all circumstances without showing any unfair dealing towards the women. Gender equality is of prime importance. Our Prophet (Sm) has maintained the concept of gender equality and set examples in every sphere of life as a lesson for us. In Arabia gender discrimination was acute in the ancient times. It really turns the society back. So we ought to be conscious about the equal rights of males and females. In Bangladesh in he previous days a deplorable disparity was noticed. But with the progress of education, the picture was changed. Our government is keen to maintain gender equality by taking some epoch making initiatives like making female equation free up to HSC level ,awarding stipends to girl students, recruting more and more female candidates in jobs and so on.Fanaticism, baised social outlook and superstitions are the main barriers. Lack of education and orthodox attitude are also responsible for these barriers.Overwall developments of our country depends largely on the equality of treatment of both the sexes. If the females are neglected and kept outside the development activities, the nation will miss their contributions. As a result, almost 50% of the total development will be hampered. To maintain equality, both male and female sexes are required to go ahead side by side in the field of education, jobs, business and other out of home activities.

Social Value

Social Value

Social value means the beliefs of the people living in society about what is right and what is wrong and what is important in life. Every society has its own value which is different from other society and it hinders the culture of that particular society. In the past, we lived in peace and amity with others and showed respect to others rights, likes and dislikes. We were dutiful and responsible toward society. But society is changing continuously. At present, people hardly care about others. People are becoming selfish day by day. They only think about themselves. There are many reasons behind the degradation of social values. Nowadays life becomes complex. The children do not get proper knowledge about  values from the family. Everywhere in the society there is imbalanced competition to go ahead. The effects of social value is on the wane. Family can play a vital role in this regard. Children should be taught not only formal learning but also informal learning by the society to preserve our own social values.

The changes place in the atmosphere have become one of the serious threats that world faces today. The earth’s climate has changed over the last century. Its impact will be severely negative on both mankind and nature. Human activities that contribute to climate change include in particular the burning of fossil fuels, agriculture and land-use changes like deforestation. These causes’ emissions of carbon dioxide, the main gas responsible for climate change and for this possibly many catastrophic changes will be inevitable. The more the greenhouse gases are emitted, the higher tendency will be for the earth to warm. It will widespread the melting of snow and ice. Serious consequences will be a rise in sea levels, which will endanger coastal areas and small islands. Therefore, only reducing emissions of greenhouse gases should reduce the risk of the adverse effects .Many options for emission reduction is available. But the whole world needs to be concerned to remove this fatal threat.

Drug addiction

Drug addiction

Taking of excess of particular kinds of drugs to get rid of frustration is called drug addiction. Drugs are used to get some illusion and mental stimulation. It has now become a global problem. People get addicted to drugs for variety of reasons. Sometimes young people become frustrated out of unemployment, rejection in love, lack of family ties, political abuse or other such reasons. Then they take drugs to get released from their mental pressure. Addiction to drugs causes a great harm to the physical and mental health of the users. They feel drowsy, lose their appetite and finally they become devoid of all human senses. They become mere beasts who have little concern about their families, relations and social values. When the drug addicts are unable to afford to buy drugs, they commit social crimes like hijacking, stealing, robbery etc. The poisonous drugs kill them slowly but surely. Drug addiction not only harms the addicted but also degrades his family in the eye of society. Abiding by the rules of religion and by following the rules of health one can avoid being addicted to drugs. Avoiding bad company is also necessary to remain safe from the bad effects of drug addiction. Creating awareness at personal and family levels against the dangerous effects of drugs is also necessary. It is high time we saved our young generation from ruins by drug addiction.

Deforestation

Deforestation

Deforestation means spoiling tress in large numbers. Trees are very much important for our existence. They are closely related to our life. Without tress we do not get oxygen which is very much related to existence of human beings as well as other animals. They are also a great source of food, vitamins and furniture. Most of the living beings on earth live on plant-oriented food, like fruits, vegetables, leaves etc. So, we cannot live a single moment on earth without any tree. But nowadays, plants are being destroyed at an alarming rate. A huge amount of plants are being cut down for construction works and for making furniture. It is a matter of sorrow that we have indiscriminately destroyed our tress which has now become a threat to the ecological balance. To draw quick profit from tress, men cut down them in large numbers. It leads to soil erosion and deprives us of fruit and wood and causes also economic loss. So we have to realize the bad effects of deforestation. In face, if deforestation goes on, our country will be changed into a desert. So, we have to educate our common people and to persuade them to abstain from cutting down tress. So, to save the nature, to save ourselves from being destroyed, we should stand against deforestation to ensure a healthy environment for our successors.

Gender discrimination

Gender discrimination

Gender discrimination means the discriminatory distribution of rights between male and female on the basis of gender identity. Unfortunately the female children are the worst victim of gender discrimination which begins at their birth. Social prejudices, customs and our male – domination trend are all the major causes of it. Religious misinterpretation contributes to the degradation of women’s position, so, from the very early stage parents take more care in all respects for the male children. Gender discrimination is undoubtedly harmful to female gender causing their health hazards, mental distress and even in some cases causing their death. Being deprived of proper health care and nutrition they become vulnerable to various diseases. They are considered as half – human beings who are born only to become wife of a husband and the mother of some children. This critical position makes them victim of all evil things like dowry illiteracy, malnutrition etc. To resolve this problem we should change the outlook towards girls it should be established that women are equal partners to men. Proper education and nutrition should be rendered to female children. This social curse of gender discrimination will curl only when we will realize that women are morn human beings than mere women.

Dowry system

Bad effects of dowry System

Dowry is the large amount of money or property that the bridegroom or her family demands to the bride family during the marriage ceremony. Dowry system is a heinous malpractice which the people of our county have been nourishing for long years. That’s why; it is called the curse in our society. In ancient time it was the custom to the society. But at present dowry is the social curse for our society. Poverty is the main cause of dowry. It is ignorance or greed which makes the bridegroom shameless to demand money from the bride’s party at the time. Of marriage, however, it is not the only reason of dowry system. Because it is prevalent in solvent families as well. In our scion- economic structure dowry is given and taken as a penalty to the bird’s party. Moreover, the greed of the bridegroom for getting illegal money is the vital cause of dowry. Dowry system gives birth to various problems in the society. It has created so many bad effects. The wives are often tortured and beaten even to death for not giving dowry. I think dowry system is very disgraceful for the society and for the humanity. For eliminating dowry system the government should enhance applying the rules strictly. The bride, bridegroom or any other person involved in taking or giving dowry should be punished and boycotted by the society.
