My First Day at College

My first day at college is an important event of my life. To me it is an unforgettable day. I was most curiously awaiting the day when I would start my college life. I thought that the college life would offer me a free life, here restriction would be few. At last the longed-four day came in.

I reached the campus of Dhaka Commerce College. It took me some fifteen minutes to reach there. This time I felt nervous. My feet seemed not to have touched the ground. The large building, though I saw it before, appeared new to me.

The building, its majestic structure, and the large campus occupied a new place in my mind. I found myself in a new world. I saw some boys in front of a board. I went there and saw our class routine. I took the routine.

I entered the college premises with new hopes and aspirations. I was glad to see that the college presented a new sight. It was quite different from what I had seen in and around our school. I came across many unknown faces.

The bell rang. It was 10 a.m. According to routine I entered a room numbered four. It was very spacious. Some students were already seated there. I sat down on the second bench of the second row.

After a few moments a smart gentleman entered. We all stood up and honoured him. He with a happy smile told us to be seated. He was the professor of English.

When we sat down, he called over the role. He advised us to be punctual and regular, to be obedient to teachers, to be sympathetic and to be friendly with our classmates. The bell duly rang.  The teacher left the class.

We went out. The second period was off-period. So I with one of my new classmates walked round the different blocks of the college building.

I went to the student’s common room. I saw there some students playing at table tennis, some at carom board, some sitting on the chairs and reading newspapers.

Then I went to the college library. The library was furnished with many shelves full of books. The bell rang. I entered the classroom. It was our accounting class. The class was also interesting to me.

I had some very strange experiences on the first day of my college life. I was baffled to see students playing indoor and outdoor games.

I observed that the students are free in their movements. They can do things according to their choice.

I found all the newly admitted students in a high spirits. They were all happy to make friends. I moved round the college. I was very much delighted to see the grand library of the college where I could find books on very subjects.

I found that the method of teaching in the college is different from that in the school.

Each subject is taught by a specialized teacher. Professors don't rebuke the students if they fail to learn their lessons. They simply tell the students to be conscious of their responsibilities.

The students find here a homely atmosphere which they lack in the school. For this, they feel easy and comfortable here.

I felt a new rhythm of life and returned home with a mixed sense of duty and liberty.

The class being over, I left the college. I returned home with a joyous mind. I concluded that liberty or freedom must not be misused at all. Thus my first day at college ended happily.

Uses and abuses of Internet

Uses and abuses of Internet
Internet is the way of intercommunication network. It is not only a communication network but also the most widely spread communication technology of the world. It can be termed as Aladin’s magic lamp in the sphere of modern era.

Internet is a tool that can link up all the people around the world. It brings us a lot of convenience. But at the same time it can be described as a weapon to destroy human’s psychology.

The internet has proved itself very helpful tool in many ways. It has opened a gateway for people. It has made impossible task possible for us to communicate with people from the other side of the world. At the same time, it allows us to meet new people. It discovers new places even though we are not there.

While maximum people consider it as a blessing on the other hand nowadays many others regard it as a curse because like everything else in the world the internet has a good and a bad side to it.

One of the main reasons that many people blame it is that everything is very easy here. One can get the information whatever s/he likes. It has no sense to differentiate the good and evil information. In fact it has no censorship sense.

As a result many things spin out of control. People start using the internet as a method of spying rather than a manner of communication. They abuse this blessing by placing information or data that is unacceptable such as pornography. Some others may use it for fraud or theft. When these actions are committed they are considered as a form of crime.

It is more useful and sometime harmful to the rising young generation. Especially a student no longer needs to spend long hours in libraries searching for a desired piece of information.

A web search engine can provide the necessary material just at a click of a button and no matter which remote corner of the world s/he is in. The Internet will keep you side by side of the latest developments and findings that are happening throughout the world.

Books are essential for study and research. But they may not be available every time. Internet can solve this problem.

Internet also helps marking arrangements for air ticket, hotel booking etc. Internet also helps the patients to get prescription and treatment of the famous doctors at a minimum cost.
We can get important news of home and abroad from it. On the other hand, Internet provides us with the opportunities to enjoy music, movie, sports etc.

In a world, it can be said that Internet plays a very important role in different fields of our life including trade and commerce, education and recreation and above all effective communication.

Internet has some harmful aspects beside its great contribution. Some miscreants spread internet virus and destroy computers to fulfill their illegal ends.

Some computer hackers use internet to hack into other's computer system and cause them harm. The Internet system is, in no way, responsible for these problems.

Everything in this world has both bright and dark sides. We have both the way is opened. It is we who are to decide which way to travel on this information super path and the right of choice depends totally on us.

The information and technology controlling authority has also something to do in this regard. Though the flow of information is open to all, the authority can certainly give a barrier against the uncensored websites.

Overall our positive thinking and well developed sense can raise us clearly a step ahead with the blessing of internet.

Information is considered to be power. Information and communication technology represented by Internet is the sole tool to overall development of the present world. Only then we will be able to keep pace with the advanced world.

Unemployment problem in Bangladesh

Unemployment problem in Bangladesh

Unemployment means the state of being without any work both for the educated and the uneducated for earning one’s livelihood. This problem has become a great concern all over the world. But nowhere in the world is this problem so acute as in Bangladesh.

A person has to run year after year from office to office to find out a job. Hundreds of candidates swarm over a single post. The bad effect of unemployment is not only confined to the economic field but also destroys the sense of moral values for want of employment.

Many young people become frustrated. They have to lead a vagabond life. They have to idle away their time. Life becomes a curse and burden to them. When there is no dim ray of hope, they resort to commit different types of crimes like hijacking, plundering, robbery, murder, terrorism, drug addicting etc.

There are many reasons behind unemployment problem. Our country is over populated. The rapid growth of population is the main reason of unemployment problem. Job facilities are very small in proportion to the growth of propagation. And this increasing number of population outpaces all development of the country.

Our county is industrially very much backward. In fact the development in this field is very slow. Cottage industries have almost decayed. The few mills, factories and industries that we have can only absorb a limited number of people.

Most of the people of our country depend on agriculture. But our cultivable land is very limited. So, it can not engage a huge number of people. Moreover, this profession is seasonal. So, the farmers have to sit idle for a few months a year.

Our present system of education in stead of giving any solution creates educated unemployed young men. In our educational system there is no much scope of giving vocational training and technical education to a student. So after taking the highest degree even from the highest seat of learning, they remain unemployment.

Our educated young men generally think it to be disgraceful to do any manual work. They prefer service to any kind of business. This false sense of dignity and prestige is one of the reasons of their being unemployment.

In order to eradicate this problem we have to mobilize all our energies to this great purpose without wasting time. The most essential measure is the industrialization of our country.

A large number of mills, factories and industries should be set up where many of our unemployed youths will get the opportunity to work.

A great change should be brought our education system. More importance should be given on professional, vocational and technical education. This will make an opening to work in different industrial sectors both home and abroad.

The educated youth should change their attitude to life. They must learn to choose independent career. They can work in agriculture field, cultivate fish, and grow vegetables. They can start small business. In fact self employment is a possible solution to this great problem.

Steps should be taken to set up co-operative farming, cottage industries and open new system of public work in the rural areas to create job for the village people.

Bangladesh earns a handsome amount of foreign currencies by exporting manpower. This has solved this problem to a little extent. If proper measure is taken, their number can easily be increased. But no attempt will bear any fruit unless effective measures are taken to keep the population growth under control.

Unemployment is a great curse to a nation. We can not expect the development of our country leaving its millions of people unemployed to survive as a boastful nation. We should make all out efforts to get rid of this curse.

Television

Television is one of the greatest inventions of modern science. It has dramatically changed the definition of news and entertainment. It has also played an important role in the progress of civilization. Its role in making people informed creating public opinion and awareness can be noticed easily.

Television is a device that combines both hearing and watching. With the aid of television things can be seen from a great distance. It is really wonderful that we see the live images of a person singing or talking at a great distance on the screen of a television. It marks a great improvement over radio.

A scientist named Bayard invented television in 1925. Since then the device has undergone a lot of development. Initially the sound and picture were not clear. Images were monocular. But now televisions produce crystal clear sounds and images in actual color.

Television is indeed very useful to us. It has brought the entire world within eyesight. It is an indispensable source of information and entertainment.

It entertains us with songs, talks, plays, movies, videos etc. with the help of television we can see important news and events on the TV screens. Nowadays television is even used to impart education by arranging distant learning prgrammes on TV.

Special programmers are also arranged for children. It is a valuable medium of instruction. Ignorant masses can be educated and given necessary instruction through television.

Sometimes it can be used for evil purposes by telecasting wrong and false information. It can also spread harmful elements such as sex and violence. Sometimes TV advertisements try to popularize bad quality products thus causing harm to public interest.

The medium of television has a great influence over people as millions of people watch TV programmers everyday for a fairly long time.

So proper care should be given to ensure that it does not telecast any harmful material that can jeopardize public interest.

Female Education in Bangladesh

Education is a light to which everybody has the equal right. Education is the backbone of a nation. The prosperity of a country mainly depends on the education of her population. About fifty percent of the total population of a country is female. A country cannot expect her prosperity avoiding this large part of population.

No nation can progress without educated mothers. Allah has created both man and woman equally. They are like the two sides of a coin. One is incomplete without the other. It should be imparted equally to both men and women. Our religion has also made education compulsory for all.

Every woman is a potential mother. Mothers’ women play an important part in moulding the character of their children. Education of a child greatly depends upon its mother.

An educated mother would able to bring up better than an uneducated mother. A mother exercises an undeniable influence in the formation of children’s character and in shaping their future destiny.

Lives of many great men of the world show that their greatness was due to their mother’s influence.

The role of women is making a home an abode of peace and happiness is great. A good housewife is an asset to the entire family. She can keep accounts; control and guide servants and take initiative in many domestic matters. She can maintain the discipline of the house.

In conjugal life a women can help her husband. For this purpose a women has to be educated. An educated wife can take an active part and help her husband in the greater filed of action.

In the past, our women folk were confined within the four walls of home. Parents did not allow them to receive education.

An educated husband can never have free exchange of ideas with an ignorant wife. Life would be dull and unhappy for them. Frequent quarrels may result from such a lack of understanding. So female education is essential from this point of view.

Parents also thought it waste of time and money to educate their girls. They did not understand that if girl children were educated they could be as competent as male children.

Early marriage, religious misinterpretation and the narrowness of our outlook created bar to the path of education.

All necessary steps should be taken to encourage universal female education. Education for girls up to degree level has been made free with a monthly stipend. More schools and colleges for girls are being set up to spread female education. If a mother is not educated, the child is not taken care of properly. So, all of us should come forward to spread female education.

We need good wives and good mothers to make our nation great. It are a matter of great delight that women have started to come out of their cocoons. Being educated, they are advancing forward and joining a wide range of professions. They have already been able to prove their abilities.

They are also becoming successful in establishing themselves in every arena. They have become successful in exposing their talent in politics. They are becoming self-dependent day by day.

There are some people who are strongly opposed to the female education. They think that women’s only duty is to do household affairs, rearing children and ministering to the comforts of there male partners. For this reason they say it is useless to educate women.

We cannot think of the progress of our country avoiding our female. So all necessary steps should be taken to encourage female education for the survival of our country. It is a matter of joy that our government has already taken different steps for the expansion of female education.
